Features

EasyPro Barley Straw Bale Features:

  • Inhibits growth and development of algae
  • Safe for aquatic and non-aquatic life
  • 4-6 months decomposition of Barley Straw allows for long term algae control
  • Chemical free alternative for algae removal
  • Best if used to inhibit growth of algae
  • Not effective in controlling existing algae
  • Uses dried barley Straw, not fresh. Fresh hay releases nitrogen and phosphorus in the water when decomposing therefore aiding in the growth of algae and lowering oxygen levels in pond

Specifications

EasyPro Barley Straw Bale Specifications:

  • .025 lbs of straw per square yard of pond surface
  • Each bale should be broken up as much as possible. Decomposition will occur in the presence of oxygen. Tightly packed bales will only decompose slowly on the outside.
  • DO NOT throw loose bales in water. Place broken apart, loosely in netting so water and air can circulate and help in decomposition.
  • Best used in the early months before the water warms causing rapid algae growth. Mid-March/April is an ideal time to control algae growth during the flourishing May growth period.
  • Old barley straw should be replaced with new barley by mid-July to maintain an algae free pond
  • Does not give immediate effects. Decomposition happens over time. can prevent the growth of new algae but will not kill off pre-existing algae

Description

Control the growth of algae before it even starts with the EasyPro Barley Straw Bale. Using the laws of natural decomposition, EasyPro Barley Straw Bale slowly decomposes under water releasing natural chemicals into the water preventing the growth of algae. A safe, non-chemical alternative to treating algae before the start of pond season.

EasyPro Barley Straw Bale should be placed in the pond mid-March to early April to prevent the explosive algae growth in the month of May. Barley bales should not be thrown into the pond. Break up the bale and loosely placed in netting. This will allow for water and air flow to pass through the straw letting the straw decompose together. If left tightly wrapped, only the outside of the bale would decompose and not be able to properly work. Do NOT use fresh hay or barley as this will release large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus aiding in the growth of algae

Barley Straw has the potential to use large amounts of oxygen during decomposing. For best results, use with an aeration system to provide plenty of oxygen to fish and water plants.
